It was he, with his ability to walk on snow, who told Aragorn and Boromir that the snow ended soon after the point at which they nearly gave up shoveling a path through it on Caradras to free the Company. He first recognized the dark power in Moria for what it was - a Balrog. He led the Company to Lõrien, and conversed with Haldir, getting the Company permission to enter the forest. He received a bow of the Galadrim, strund with Elf-hair as a gift from Galadriel. At Parth Galen, he went with Aragorn and Gimli to follow the Orcs who had captured Meriadoc and Peregrin. He and Gimli, becoming close friends, shared the mount Arod of Rohan. He fought at the Battle of Helm's Deep, losing by one the game he played with Gimli concerning who could slay the most Orcs. He went on the Paths of the Dead with Aragorn, and saw the gulls at Pelargir, awakening the sea-longing in his heart, which Galadriel warned him of through Gandalf. he went with the Captains of the West to the Morannon. When the Company returned to Orthanc after Mid-summer, he and Gimli left the others to travel to Fangorn and Aglarond, as the two had promised each other earlier. In 120 Fourth Age, after Aragorn's death, he built a ship in Ithilien, and put on it the beds of Aragorn, Meriadoc and Peregrin.
